Decline in new marriages, Ruth Institute Comments

The Ruth Institute writes in their blog post today about the decline in new marriages. As has been reported over the past few days, there has been a decline attributed to the economy.

The Ruth Institute comments:

But this I wonder: Does the fact that our society is trying to turn marriage into a meaningless registry of friendships via redefinition have any effect on people’s attitude towards marriage? Any effect at all? Naaw. Impossible.

Of course, their “Naaw. Impossible” was an attempt at sarcasm. I have to say though, the ignorance here is thick, and so is the bigotry.

You were given a statistic and a reason for that statistic. Now, you want to use that statistic as yet another attack on a group of people who want nothing more than to be treated as equals in our society. So, NOM, you can quit wondering. The answer is a resounding “no”. The fact that I want to marry the man that I love has nothing to do with the decline in marriages all together.

It is heterosexual couples who have turned marriage into nothing more than a meaningless registry of friendships. Glenn beck is on marriage number 2, Maggie Gallaghar is on marriage number 2, Rush Limbough is on marriage number 4.

All of those that are fighting against our ability to just simply marry the 1 person that we want to spend the rest of our lives with, are the same people who actually hold marriage in such little regard that they refused to hold to their very own marriage vows, “til death do us part”.

Yes, you’ve watered it down, so shut up and move out of my way because I’m going to get my marriage, whether you like it or not!
Til next dumb ass comment you have to make,
I’m Out
